GAMES GLORIOUS GAMES
Wow, am I long winded or what.
that was a really long post.
ok. ok. I think it looks longer than it is,
because I used different formatting,

I, too, love games. Games of all sorts. I once dated a guy who didn't like games and I almost broke up with him because of it (as it turned out I broke up with him for different reasons). I love board games (Life, Sorry, Monopoly), but my favorites are card games; pinochle, hearts, mormon bridge. My family also loves to play dice games; Yahtzee, farkle, and perudo. At my dad's house we love to play Who Wants to be a Millionaire. We play teams, boys against girls. Fifty years from now I'll remember how every Sunday night we played games as a family, either at my mom's or at my dad's. Aaahhh. Good times.
I enjoy games, as well. I have a Sunday tradition of playing Scrabble and Rummikub with my mom. She thinks I always win, but I believe the percentage is actually in her favor.
I just played the construction game for the first time.
I loved it.
I may have to write a blog about it.
but this is my question:
Why is there only one company with games available in this town?
They're all Hasbro.
(ok there are a few University Games games, but they're pretty dumb)
do the bookstores have games?
hmm.
I'm not sure what the construction game is, so I look forward to reading your blog about it. Have you been to Across the Board Games? Their selection isn't huge, but sometimes I have found a game there that I can't find at Wal-Mart. Also, I try to support small businesses whenever possible.
I, too, avoid Wal-Mart at all costs. Especially since their selection is generally meager, and I consider Wal-Mart to be like Satan's plan: take people's agency away. Anyway,... I know that you can purchase The Construction Game and The Farming Game at Cal-Ranch stores. If you go to the bookstores, you may be able to find some games, but they are generally religious-oriented. I typically purchase games at the Across the Games place; although, I'm not sure where it is anymore or if it exists because the last time I tried to make a purchase there, they were combining with a Bookstore that was failing miserably in its sales... unbelievable that a bookstore/coffee shop wouldn't make it in the town, eh? Anyway, I should also mention that the game store generally smelled like severe body odor whenever I went into it, probably from all the people who would just play games there all day and all night and only go home to sleep (maybe?) but definitely not to shower.
Cardine, the game store is now located between Pizza Hut and Smiths. If you want to know more details, call me.
Actually, I think I remember you telling me that before.
Wow.
I love reading my blog.
No seriously.
this is the coolest thing ever.
I learn so much from the comments,
(which I could say about the comments from other blogs too).
But just now, as I was re-reading comments I found two things of great interest to me.
#1 that "Across the Board" still exhists and
#2 that C-A-L ranch sells two very cool games.
I think I will have to pay a visit to the both of them.
and I think I will have to get some purchases made,
because I too enjoy when small local businesses are supported ;>
thanks again for all your comments
I should be posting again soon.

BIG NEWS!
ok so it's not really big news,
because julie already mentioned this
(kind of) but it is big news to me.
yes it's true, I found Across the Board Games, but they moved. Again.
actually they move alot.
by my count they have moved, oh... about six or eight times.
and they've only been in business for six years. but hey who am I kidding, six years in business is awesome, but they still need our support. so I am hereby encouraging everyone to do their christmas shopping at 'Across the Board Games'
Now I bet you're saying to yourself,
self, where is across the board games, or maybe even 'Warnser where is it?
well I'll tell you. It's behind hunans now! yep back in there,
in fact that's the building (but not the location) that they started in.
HOORAY!
Good to know! After my comment I had heard that it had closed down and I was sad. So, I'm glad they're still up and going! :)
so for our wedding, we registered at target for a bunch of kids games kind of as a joke, and someone actually got them for us. So we have Chutes and Ladders, Operation, Connect Four, and Checkers.
The only game we have that we can play with other people is Uno Attack.
I like the idea of getting games for a wedding, you know assuming that I actually get married,
but I'll be addressing that in another response, or maybe even a post.
but I would definately play connect four if I had it, so When I get married that's going in my registry.
For a long time I didn't like games. I thought they were a waste of time. I wasn't good at many of them, and I really didn't think that the time spent playing them was of any benefit to anyone.
And then one day, I realized that playing a game with someone can tell me a lot about that person. I noticed that while playing games, things come out, like personality traits, attitudes about life, the way a person deals with pressure and competition, whether he has a sense of humor, and all sorts of other things.
Later, I noticed that while playing games I can test out different strategies and attitudes in a safe scenario, one in which I won't make a mess of anything important with my blunders.
Now I can see that games have their place (in moderation of course!). They are short simulations of life experiences. They give me a chance to relax, learn some good tricks, make some mistakes, and not be too concerned about the consequences.
Yes, I admit it, games have their place. And they can be lots of fun besides. Long live good games!
